The Standard may be ultra cool and stylish, but, more importantly, it’s an invigorating, relaxing and welcoming place to stay. Less a hotel and more a spa with guest rooms, the hotel doesn’t fit neatly with South Beach’s super-luxury image. The serene, intimate atmosphere belies the SoBe buzz of glitz and glamour. Friendly, knowledgeable staff can easily point guests in the right direction regardless of the request.
The hotel is at a remove from the action on South Beach’s main drag, located on quiet and mostly residential Belle Isle. The Venetian Causeway, a series of bridges that span Biscayne Bay, connects The Standard with Miami Beach proper.
Set amidst peaceful tropical gardens, the breezy, soothing rooms feature private terraces, many with outdoor soaking tubs, that are stylishly decorated but not oversized or terribly decadent. The modern décor, whites and blonde woods, blends 1950s Miami modernism with Scandinavia.
The spa, The Standard’s raison d’être, combines New Ageism with an eclectic assortment of Turkish, Roman and Finnish-style communal bathhouse cultures, including a hamam, aroma steam room, waterfall hot tub, sauna and arctic plunge pool. Treatments include a mud lounge and salt-water infinity pool, as well as an assortment of mud wraps, steam baths, massages and a dip in the chlorine-free Sound Pool, all to the tune of a live DJ.
Inspired by traditional Mediterranean diet and lifestyle, the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill serves organic meats, fish, and unprocessed food seasoned with olive oil and fresh herbs that is grill cooked to perfection.
